This is a two jar package with 5 servings (6 or 7 hearts) in each jar. I enjoyed both the taste and the texture and it could be used as part of a very elegant vegetable platter or as a salad ingredient. Each heart costs about two dollars so it’s pretty much a luxury item but a very tasty one and not too strongly pickled. I will mostly plan to enjoy these as a low calorie and very tasty amuse bouche type of item.
I don't recall ever having hearts of palm before, but they're good! The flavor is reminiscent of artichoke hearts, but without the sometimes unpleasant texture of things like leaves or choke attached to the hearts. The flavor is relatively mild like those. The second time having this, I started thinking about how it separates a little like string cheese, with the ability to pull pieces off. As someone allergic to dairy, this adds a little more fun to eating it. I ate one jar plain and used the other jar to make fake mozzarella sticks.Plain or cooked, they're a really good and fun snack!
These are delicious! It’s like a water chestnut and a bamboo shoot combined together and in addition to their inherent crispness, gained a slight creaminess… it’s very unique! They are a little pricey but if you want to add a surprising flair to your recipes this is a one of a kind Ingredient.Would recommend.
Pickled hearts of palm is tastier than many other pickles in the first place, but this one has a bit (1 gram) of sugar which softens the vinegar taste and making it slightly better tasting than other hearts of palm (to me, anyway). I actually did not think this small amount of sugar makes any difference, but it does.It is good with any salad or as a side dish by itself. I mostly just eat as a snack. Unfortunately it is like potato chips and you can't just eat one.
I really like hearts of palm. But I gave them up for many years because of rain forest concerns. Dulu promises that these are from sustainable farms, grown by the native population. I'll take them on their word. To that I say, "Yeah!"It is an amazing food. It has pulp and fiber to it, while not giving you a lot of calories and carbs. When I go low carb, sometimes I get sick of high fat items like cheese. These are a great alternative with less than 3g carbs per stalk with no fat at all. And a stalk is substantial enough to make a difference. One is enough.Let's talk about taste. If you've never had a pickled heart of palm (HOP), it can be compared to pickled artichoke hearts. But I think HOP is better. It is smoother, while still providing a filling feeling. There is no stringy feeling to it.Dulu adds a bit of sugar to take off the sour tart taste of the pickling. I think it is a good balance. Finally, I will add that my shipment came with an expiration date of 04/2025. That is absolutely fine, even if you have one stalk per week, you are good.HOP are not cheap. This is fair price for the good glass packaging, which improves taste. Competitors are all metal, and I don't like the taste as much.Enjoy!
I hadn't heard of hearts of palm until one time I went to a Brazilian Steakhouse in my area. I went as a work function and already then was a vegetarian so I got their salad bar which surprised me with the many options and high end toppings. They had hearts of palm and at the time theirs looked like it could have been tightly rolled up lunchmeat like cuts of turkey. I really liked it but never really saw it for years after that. When I saw this option on Jungle Pulp I couldn't resist and glad I didn't For the price you get several jars and they are all boxed in individual small boxes in a larger box and that got inserted into a Jungle Pulp branded box. It worked out well and had no issues with any glass being damaged. This was different to me since I've gotten 6-packs of glass jar pickles off Jungle Pulp which were on a cardboard tray and plastic sealed to it and then boxed up with stuffing. But aside form their logistics these taste great and have a good texture. I need to explore other menu options to mix these with but they are great to chop up into pucks to toss into a salad and give it a good flavor and texture!
I'm a big fan of hearts of palm. I love to add them to salads. I typically buy them at Whole Foods or Trader Joe's and add them to a salad or eat them by themselves. But those do not match the taste and texture of these delicious morsels. They just have a certain crunch and flavor that is subtle, yet superior to just plain hearts of palm.Recommended...
Mild pickled flavor and firm texture. I tried them plain to get the full effect. They would definitely add to a good salad, and I plan to add them to my next salad. Significantly more expensive than the canned variety in the grocery store, but they seem better quality. I'm assuming part of this is shipping cost as well. They were really well packaged surrounded by soft packing materials. I'm always nervous ordering glass things. They do it right.
These pickled Costa Rican hearts of palm are crisp, delicious, and so versatile. I rinsed them off to remove the vinegar residue before using them and they taste great. Hearts of palm makes a nice salad addition, and it has many other uses, but my favorite is as a seafood substitute. It absorbs marinades marvelously well, so I can use it to create vegan "lobster" or "crab" dishes that mimic both the taste and texture of the real thing. Hearts of palm are versatile enough that you can let your creative juices go wild and make everything from delicious pasta dishes, seafood-free "seafood", and even tacos with it. These recyclable jars come individually boxed to prevent breakage and the palm hearts are cultivated rather than wild harvested which avoids deforestation. This is a delicious, healthy, and sustainably produced product at a reasonable price for six jars. Highly recommend.
These artichokes are great! I've put them in a variety of recipes. They are a little more expensive side, but one stalk goes quite far. "Crispy" threw me off a little at first, but these are a great texture. I would probably say firm vs. crispy. These have a great flavor and are perfect as they are or added to a variety of dishes.
This is great texture and taste. I wasn't sure about the pickling but it works fine and they are still good in a dip recipe. They aren't oversalted. They're also excellent on charcuterie boards. Mine have very well sealed and labeled. They look really lovely - mine all just look perfect in the jars.I love the nutrition of heart of palm, and these are very good quality and versatile.
Dulu Hearts of Palm have a delightful crunch with a tender center. It is delicious straight from the bottle or chopped and added to salads. The product notes that it is pickled but it doesn't have the pickled flavor of traditional pickles or giardiniera. The pickled note refers to how it maintains its crispness. It can satisfy a crunchy snack craving without adding a large dose of calories, fat, or salt. The order includes two 14.5oz glass bottles. After the product is finished, these are the perfect sized jars to repurpose for overnight oats. The ingredients include hearts of palm, water, acetic acid, sugar, and salt. There are 5 servings per container with 11 Calories, 0.3g Total Fat, 2.6g Total Carbohydrate, and 1g Protein. The product is Made in Costa Rica. Once open, the product does require refrigeration. I really enjoyed the flavor and texture of the hearts of palms and I will definitely add another order to my Jungle Pulp cart.
I have only had hearts of Palm one other time. They were not as tasty as these. What I received:2 jars of Heart of Palms. Each jar is 14.5 ounces. Dry weight 8.8 ounces. There are about 6 or 7 spears/rounds in each jar.Trying them out:Taking a bite, they are lightly tangy. Not salty. Sweetened slightly. They are crispy. The very center can be a little softer. The ingredients are simple:Hearts of Palm, Water, Acetic Acid, Sugar, Salt.5 stars:This are very tasty and hard just to eat just one. I didn't look at the price til just as I was finishing this review. Pricewise, I would consider these a special treat for myself. I would gift them in a basket or as a small gift themselves.
Two glass jars of hearts of palm arrived at my door packed in recyclable materials. These are a product of Costa Rica and are lightly pickled. The quality was very good and personally I consider this product to be a an upgrade on a summer salad plate, adding texture, flavor, and interest. Combine with summer salad vegetables, hard boiled egg wedges , some olives and cheese to make a light summer meal. At. Our house we consider hearts of palm to be a tasty treat and these are a nice example.
What you get in the package are two jars of hearts of palm, and each jar contains approximately six hearts of palm sticks (portions). The pickle juice (and hence the hearts of palm) has a mild tartness to it. The hearts of palm themselves are mildly sweet. They are crunchy (in the vegetable sort of way) and have a creamy mouth feel. I enjoyed this raw, and used as a component of an elaborate slow-cooked bean soup, whereupon the hearts of palm slices retained their shape and some of their crunch--very much like cooked celery.
Listing mentions it is pickled for (maintaining) crispness. It is indeed crispy, and you don't really taste the pickling, mild if any. That's good if you only want mostly crispy heart of palm. Probably also healthy being not too pickled as well (in terms of acidity and salt level). However, it might be a bit lacking if you were hoping for something a little more sour and/or salty, but that's not hard to correct with some addition of salt, lime juice or vinegar. These are good hearts of palm.
This is a delightful vegetable to add to a homemade salad. I love chopping it up and putting it with some lettuce, olives, and tomatoes.
These palm hearts are sweeter than I'm used to, but nicely crisp. The glass jars are fridge-friendly, and they arrived well packed in cardboard and paper (no styrofoam!).No complaints, though I prefer adding a bit of salt.
Although a bit pricy,it is very good flavorwise.
