The Rise of Mexican Wine: A Campaign to Celebrate Local Excellence

Mexican wine has been steadily gaining recognition both domestically and internationally, prompting three key organizations to collaborate on a new initiative aimed at further boosting its visibility and appreciation.

The campaign, titled “Elige Vino Mexicano” (“Choose Mexican Wine”), is a partnership between the Consejo Mexicano Vitivinícola (CMV), the Cámara Nacional de la Industria Restaurantera y Alimentos Condimentados (CANIRAC), and the Asociación Nacional de Vinos y Licores (ANDYVIL)

Launched on Mexican Wine Day—October 7—the initiative marks the beginning of Mexican Wine Week, it ran from October 7 to 13. This campaign encompassed various activities designed to encourage the consumption of Mexican wines:

  • Restaurant Promotions: Throughout the country, diners can enjoy uncorkings and glasses of Mexican wine at special rates, alongside exclusive discounts and promotions. A detailed map will guide patrons to participating restaurants.

  • Mexican Wine Passport: The CMV is introducing the “Mexican Wine Passport,” allowing wine enthusiasts to explore and visit wineries from Baja California to Querétaro. Participants can collect stamps, access promotions, and enjoy discounts at 39 participating wineries.

  • Special Discounts: Wineries like Alianza and Castellana are collaborating to offer promotions in over 230 specialized retail locations across Mexico.

  • Online Presence: On October 7, a dedicated Mexican wine store with the name “Tienda de Vino Mexicano" was launched on Amazon, enhancing the reach and availability of Mexican wines for consumers.

  • Olfactory Experience: In partnership with the Museo del Perfume in Mexico City, the campaign will feature the “Aromas of Mexico Workshop.” This unique event will create an immersive experience, pairing specific wines with fragrances from the museum’s collection, allowing guests to explore the sensory connections between wine and scent.

  • Photography Exhibition: Yesterday, in collaboration with the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development, the Open Galleries of the Rejas de Chapultepec program will debut a photographic exhibition titled “Among Mexico's Vines.” This display will feature 60 large-format photographs celebrating the agricultural heritage and social impact of Mexico's burgeoning wine industry.

  • Additional Offers: Beyond the highlights of Mexican Wine Week, various promotions will also be available at wine bars and specialty venues. At La Castellana you will get a 25% discount on participating wines in stores and 20% on online purchases.

These initiatives will be further promoted through a digital campaign under the hashtag “Choose Mexican Wine” @vinosmexicanos_@cmv_mx. At a press conference announcing the campaign, Salomón Abedrop López, president of CMV, emphasized the significance of Mexican Wine Day: “It’s a moment to celebrate our successes and recognize our potential as a country known for producing world-class wines. Our wines are competing in prestigious international competitions, securing over 370 medals this year alone. This achievement speaks to the exceptional quality of our wines, each bottle capturing the essence of Mexico.” Enrique Escandón, vice president of CANIRAC, added, “Wine is undoubtedly the best complement to our rich Mexican cuisine, and what could be better than pairing it with a Mexican wine?” Through this campaign, Mexican wine is not only being celebrated but also positioned to take its rightful place on the global stage.  You can visit eligevinomexicano.org to learn more.
